I have a personal love affair with the Elements and Principles of Design. This is evident in my work in the way that I break down complicated objects and present very formal and often abstract images. I emphasize the very foundation of an object as a way of changing how one sees the complex object they are looking at.
My work addresses consumerism and how we are influenced by the material world in which we live. My most recent study titled, Naked Reflections, puts naked mannequins in suggestive poses alongside reflections of urban landscapes. The images create a deep sense of space both physically and intuitively. I strive to create images my viewers can relate to in one-way or another; maybe they are familiar with a specific brand seen in a storefront reflection or can relate to the exposed yet trapped quality of the mannequins. I hope to create a reaction in my viewers that leads them to be aware while enjoying their experience with my photographs.
To support earth friendly decisions in my own work I use recycled materials to make the paper that I print my images on. I connect the images with the material being used. For example, since I am currently living in Berlin, I make paper out of the flyers and junk mail I receive and am printing images from the Naked Reflections that I have shot around the city. In the past I have photographed flowers, used the flower petals to make the paper, and then printed the photos of the flower on the paper made from its petals. Always with the intention of making as little impact on the Earth as possible, while ever creating imagery that is thought provoking.
